One day, Callie Vanetta receives devastating news

She needs a liver transplant. But her doctors warn that, in her case, the chances of finding a compatible donor aren’t good.

Determined to spend whatever time she has left on her own terms, she keeps the diagnosis to herself and moves out to her late grandparents’ farm. She’s always wanted to live there. But the farm hasn’t been worked in years and she begins to fear it’s too much, she’ll have to return to town.

One night, a stranger comes knocking at her door…
He’s an attractive and mysterious drifter by the name of Levi McCloud who offers to trade work for a few nights’ shelter. Callie figures she doesn’t have anything to lose. He needs a place to stay until he can fix his motorcycle; she needs an extra pair of hands. The arrangement seems ideal until what was supposed to be temporary starts to look more and more permanent. Then she realizes she does have something to lose — her heart. And, although he doesn’t yet know it, Levi stands to lose even more.

This is a book that totally satisfies my desire for a hard-to-put-down story. I just love books that are about small towns and the interesting people who live in them. A bonus for me is when I get so caught up in the character’s lives that I laugh and cry along with the. I have to say that this book nailed it on every level.

Callie has a secret. She has been diagnosed with a fatal liver disease and she is living her last days on her grandparents farm. Then one night a strange man comes to her door, begging for her to help him…

Since Levi has been out of the military he has become a drifter with just a motorcycle, jacket and a backpack as his only possessions. There are secrets in his past that he doesn’t want to talk about or deal with. So after being attacked my some dogs he goes to the closest house looking for help without involving the authorities. Now Levi is staying in the barn so he can heal and fix up his bike. He is also helping out on the much needed repairs around the ranch and unwillingly is falling for Callie. Unfortunately Callie is running out of time…

Before I started reading When Summer Comes I did pick up and read the short novella and the first two books in the Whiskey Creek series. I am glad I did. While this can be read as a standalone I feel it was more enjoyable after having read these previous books (which I love BTW!).

I want to thank Danita Moon for introducing me to this series and to the fabulous writings of Brenda Novak. Needless to say I now have another favorite author!

About the Author:

Brenda Novak

It was a shocking experience that jump-started Brenda Novak’s bestselling author career.

“I caught my day-care provider drugging my children with cough syrup and Tylenol to get them to sleep while I was away,” Brenda says. “It was then that I decided that I needed to do something from home.”

However, writing was the last profession she expected to undertake. In fact, Brenda swears she didn’t have a creative bone in her body. In school, math and science were her best subjects, and when it came time to pick a major in college, she chose business.

Abandoning her academic scholarship to Brigham Young University at the age of 20 in order to get married and start a family, Brenda dabbled in commercial real estate, then became a loan officer.

“When I first got the idea to become a novelist, it took me five years to teach myself the craft and finish my first book,” Brenda admits. “I learned how to write by reading what others have written. The best advice for any would-be author: read, read, read….”

Brenda sold her first book, and the rest is history. Many of her novels have won or placed in contests such as the National Reader’s Choice, the Bookseller’s Best, the Write Touch, the Award of Excellence and the Beacon Award for Published Authors.
Brenda and her husband, Ted, live in Sacramento and are the proud parents of five children—three girls and two boys. She juggles her writing career with her children’s softball and soccer games, field trips, carpool runs and homework sessions.

When she’s not spending time with her family or writing, Brenda is usually working on her annual fundraiser for diabetes research—an on-line auction held at her website May 1st – May 31st. Her youngest son, Thad, has diabetes, and Brenda is determined to help him and others like him. She also enjoys traveling, watching sporting events and biking–she rides an amazing 20 miles every day!
