Tell us about the new book and what are your hopes for it:
Alycat and the Friendship Friday is the third book of the Alycat series. In, Alycat and the Friendship Friday, Alycat is excited to go on a field trip with her friends and there’s a new student in class, Phoebe. But when Alycat doesn’t have anyone to sit with on the bus, Alycat feels left out. She will have to use her creativity and imagination to help everyone feel included.
My hope is that readers can learn from the characters of how to bring new friends into the circle without leaving anyone out. The lesson focuses on the changing relationships in children’s lives and encourages kids to solve problems together so they can better themselves and their friendships. Friendships are an important part of every child’s life. My goal is that educators and parents will use Friendship Friday to teach readers that making new friends isn’t as scary as you might think and to be courageous in making new friends.
On a personal level, I hope that readers will look back to Friendship Friday as they grow older and remember the basics of friendship. I remember my favorite books that taught me about life, moving forward and acceptance, and I hope that Friendship Friday is that for our youth.
