Bleach and Dye Design Shirts for Summer Camp!

 design

When my teenage son came to me and asked me if we could design some t-shirts for him to wear at summer camp I was so excited! I love doing craft projects with my kids and I was so afraid this one had outgrown that. We immediately went shopping and picked up the supplies:

1. Shirt Form from Hobby Lobby

2. ScotchBlue Painter’s Tape, Multi-Use

3. Fine Mist Spray Bottle

4. Bleach

5. Men’s Crew T-Shirt Multipack

6. Tie- Dye Kit

We the sat down and looked at Pinterest for some ideas. The first one my son wanted to do was something that looked similar to the skyline of Dallas. We got shirt form and put his shirt on it and then the painter’s tape and taped the bottom of the shirt the best we could.

Once it was taped up we sprayed it with a mixture of 3 parts bleach to one part water gently onto the shirt. We would wait and watch it slowly fade and add more where he wanted it to go. This shirt ended up looking so cool!

On this next shirt we make a stencil of the state of Texas and taped it down. I think this has become his favorite shirt!

This next shirt he wanted one with random sized squares on it. I came up with the pattern and he really liked it!

After it dried we then removed the tape and washed it. Then my son had the idea of using orange tie dye on two of the blocks for more of a custom look.

In case you are wondering his camp team color was orange which is also his favorite color.

These last two shirts we just used the tie dye on them. My son had seen a shirt with random lines on it and wanted to try that. It turned out to be an interesting looking shirt!

His last shirt he just wanted one huge orange square on it. So even thought we taped it up firmly some of the dye leaked a little on the edges. Still an interesting shirt!

So these are the shirts we made for one of his summer camps that he is going to. We had so much fun spending time and creating them. I hope these shirts give you some ideas so you and your kids can get creative together.

I haven’t tried bleach ideas on a tv for ages, you’ve done some really good ones here. I especially like the geometric shapes on the black t shirt. Very cool.

These are really cool! My favorite is the one with the city skyline. Thank you for sharing at The Really Crafty Link Party this week. Pinned!
