Beyond Danger by Kat Martin
New York Times bestselling author Kat Martin brings page-turning suspense to a tale of secrets and passions turned deadly . . .
Texas mogul Beau Reese is furious. All six feet three obscenely wealthy, good-looking inches of him. His sixty-year-old father, Stewart, a former state senator no less, has impregnated a teenager. Barely able to contain his anger, Beau is in for another surprise. It appears that Stewart has moved an entirely different woman into the house . . .
Beau assumes that stunning Cassidy Jones is his father’s mistress. At least she’s of age. But those concerns take a sudden backseat when he finds Stewart in a pool of blood on the floor of his study—and Cassidy walks in to find Beau with his hand on the murder weapon.
The shocks just keep coming. Someone was following Stewart, and Cassidy is the detective hired to find out who and why. Now she’ll have to find his killer instead. Her gut tells her it wasn’t Beau. And Beau’s instincts tell him it wasn’t Cassidy. Determined to track down the truth, they form an uneasy alliance—one that will bring them closer to each other—closer to danger and beyond . . .
Q & A with author Kat Martin:
We are so excited to have Ms. Martin answer a few questions for us today…
What was your hardest scene to write in Beyond Danger?
I loved writing the car chase scenes. Beau is a former race car driver so he drives fast cars. The Lamborghini was my favorite. The emotional scenes are always tough to write. The scene where Beau is grieving for Cassidy was rough. But Beau’s best friend, Lincoln Cain, came in to save the day!
Does your family support your career as a writer?
I’ve been writing for so long that’s the only career they have ever known. My husband, being a writer himself, understands the difficulties, which helps a lot, especially when career problems arise.
Have you ever gotten writer’s block?
I get writer’s block during the course of writing every book! I hate it! I am always afraid this will be the time I can’t get past it. Fortunately, I just keep doggedly persisting until I get my story going on the right track again.
What other authors are you friends with and how do they help you become a better writer?
One of my best friends is Amelia Grey. She has helped me with plotting and just listening to problems that every writer faces in her career. Joan Johnston is a long-time friend, and Heather Graham. Michael and Kathleen Gear of the People of the Earth series are great friends.
Many of my best friends have quit the business. Writing is a very tough job. A lot of people start strong but after a few difficult years, they give up and go on to something else.
Do you hide secrets in your books that only a few people will find?
I think some readers might get humor that others miss, or subtle clues that help the characters solve the mystery. I love readers who really “get” me.
How do you select the names of your characters?
I spend hours working on names. Each name I choose is mean to create a mental image. I’m extremely careful even with the sub characters, bad guys, people with small roles in the story. I think it’s a very important part of storytelling.
If you didn’t write, what would you do for work?
I’d like to say I’d be an astrophysicist or something, but I would probably be selling real estate. I did that for many years before I became a writer and really enjoyed it. It’s not nearly as lonely a profession.
What is something you would like us to know about your book Beyond Danger?
I think it’s a really fun book to read, especially if you like fast cars and sexy men. But then I like to think all of my books are populated with incredibly hot heroes and smart, sexy women.
I also hope readers will look for Beyond Control, Josh Cain’s story, out in June.
