My Weekly Bible Journaling #38 – Nehemiah

It finally got cooler here and I love it! I broke out my capris and socks while the rest of the family bundled up. I am very warm natured so the cooler weather feels good to me.

While our family doesn’t really celebrate Halloween we do attend our church’s Fall Festival. On Halloween night we will be having a family night just hanging out together at home. We will eat a bunch of fun foods (and of course candy) while watching Buck Denver Asks: What’s in the Bible? Volume One and Volume Two. All my kids (even my 20 year olds) love these shows.

Here is what I have read and journaled in my Beautiful Word Coloring Bible this week:

Starting this week off with the book of Nehemiah. Not a book I read a lot from so I can’t wait to dig in and see what I can learn from it.

…let your ear be attentive and your eyes open to hear the prayer your servant is praying before you day and night for your servants, the people of Israel. I confess the sins we Israelites, including myself and my father’s family, have committed against you. – Nehemiah 1:6

Today was a quiet day today. We need days like this to refresh our spirit.

Then I said to them, “You see the trouble we are in: Jerusalem lies in ruins, and its gates have been burned with fire. Come, let us rebuild the wall of Jerusalem, and we will no longer be in disgrace.” – Nehemiah 2:17

Learning about why and how the wall around Jerusalem was rebuilt. I think it is a very interesting story. Rebuilding the walls showed that God was with His people and that He wanted to Bless them and protect them.

I answered them by saying, “The God of heaven will give us success. -Nehemiah 2:20a

One of my boys found this cactus today near the woods. He had to borrow my phone and take a picture of it. Now he wants me to cook it… yuck!!

Nehemiah is such a great book! I love the devotion, organization, and pragmatism of God’s children as they rebuilt the wall. As far as Bible journaling, not so much, although I love reflective journaling. It’s so much better than a diary because it documents God’s grace and my spiritual growth. Thanks for sharing your pics and insights into this OT hero.

I was really surprised with how much I have enjoyed reading Nehemiah. I have read it before but for some reason I seemed to really get more out of it this time.
